Revolutionary donation technique is being rolled out across the UK

NHS Blood and Transplant have announced that a new technique for preserving donated organs will be rolled out nationally by 2027. Abdominal Normothermic Regional Perfusion (ANRP) circulates oxygenated blood through the organs of donors after their heart stops beating (known as circulatory death). 

The technique has been successfully used in pilot studies, and when rolled out nationally, it is projected to increase the number of organs available for transplant. Studies have also shown that ANRP can reduce the risk of transplant failure.
